1. reasonably priced hotels;
2. availability of vegetarian food;
3. what activities I should not miss;
4. which places on the island I must visit;
5. whether 2 or 3 nights stay sufficient; and
6. what items are considered "must buy'.

Phuket is a cheap place to stay; elephant camp where elephants do mathematics will be fun and must see; some Budhist temples are worth seeing. vegetarian food is available and have to be ordered. As souvenir there are lots of carved items including furniture; these things have to be bargained for less than 30- 40% of quoted price. I remember hotels charging something like 50 USD.
