Early 7th century AD

Shashaank was a Hindu Braahman King of Bangaal Province during early 7th century AD.

He was an inveterate enemy of Buddhism. He inflicted severe atrocities on Bauddh. He endeavored a number of times to uproot Bodhi tree. He demolished Bauddh Vihaar of Buddha Gayaa and destroyed it to the ground. He uprooted and burnt the Bodhi Vriksh (Bodhi tree) also where Buddha is said to have been enlightened.
