-----------------------------------------------------------------

Taaraa describes Raavan's Army thus :
1 trillion, plus 36,000 units of warriors - each unit consisting of 10,000 warriors (means 36,000 X 10,000 = 360,000,000)    plus
Hundreds of thousands others
Means 1,000,360,000,000 warriors plus

My doubt is "where were they living in such a small area?" Any ideas?
[from Valmiki Ramayan, 4/35/15]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hanumaan describes Raavan's Army to Raam thus :
10,000       Ogres (guards) at east gate with swords
100,000     soldiers, along with Chaturanginee army, at south gate
1 million      soldiers trained in all kinds of weapons at west gate
1 billion      Raakshas in chariots and horses at north gate
12.5 million Raakshas roam around in Lankaa to guard it

Total is:

             10,000         guards at East Gate
           100,000         at South Gate
        1,000,000         at west gate
 1,000,000,000         at North Gate
      12,500,000         around in Lankaa
1,013,610,000           Total   (1.013 Billion)
