About Lankaa

Lankaa was the city built by Vishwakarmaa on Trikoot Parvat, stood in the ocean, for living the three Raakshas - Maalee, Sumaalee, and Maalyavaan. It was made all in gold and on a very high peak of the Parvat. Later when in their pride, Maalee was killed by Vishnu, Sumaalee and Maalyavaan had to run away from Lankaa.

Later Sumaalee married his daughter Kaikasee to Muni Vishravaa, Maharshi Pulastya's son. Vishravaa had one wife more before marrying Kaikasee. She had the son named Vaishravan (better known as Kuber). Kuber was very religious and on the basis of his Tapasyaa he got the position of Lokpaal among Indra, Varun and Yam. When he got this position, he asked his father Vishravaa for a place to live. As Lankaa was empty, Vishravaa Muni suggested him to live there. Kuber started living there along with some Yaksh etc.

When Vishravaa got married to Kaikasee, she begot three sons - Raavan, Kumbhkarn and Vibheeshan, and one daughter Shoorpankhaa. One day she saw Kuber flying in his Pushpak Vimaan, so she said to her eldest son Raavan that she wished that he should also be like him. Raavan said "Sure".

All the three brothers did intense Tap and got rare Var. Now Raavan became very proud because of his Var, so he started winning Trilok. He won Kuber also and took his Pushpak Vimaan. Kuber had to abandon Lankaa, he went to Kailaash Parvat, and Raavan started living in Lankaa along with his brothers and sister.

[Branched from  V-Raamaayan, 3/12/31]
Since Lankaa Puree was habited on the peak of a Parvat, Trikoot Parvat,  and was the city within its castle walls, Janasthaan became the castle gateway of Lankaa. So as such Lankaa Puree had no countryside or villages annexing it. So if Janasthaan was ruined, Lankaa was also to be ruined soon because none could cross Janasthaan so far, and this killing of Khar and Dooshan showed that somebody, who was more powerful than its in-charge, had already come in Janasthaan. And thus eventually could enter Lankaa also.

When Akampan reported Raavan about the killing of Khar and his army, he was indicating the danger for Lankaa, and the kingship of Raavan too. When he said "Many Raakshas that were guarding Lankaa, were killed", then there was a natural question "Then what Khar was doing at that time?" and its natural answer was "Khar was also killed along with them". And by this Akampan wanted to say that Dooshan and Trishiraa were also killed because they were under Khar. And this boils down to that "take care of Lankaa and your kingship now".
