3-12-Specialties of Raamaayan

Raam (राम) and Seetaa (सीता): There are 2 letters in each of these names.
Lakshman (लक्ष्‍मण) and Urmilaa (ऊर्मिला): There are 3 letters in each of these names.
Bharat (भरत) and Maandavee (मांडवी): In each of these names there are 3 letters.
Shatrughna (शत्रुघ्‌न) and Shrutkirti (श्रुतकीर्ति): There are 4 letters in each of these names.

According to numerology the number 3 is closer to number 2. Hence as Lakshman and Bharat both being three letter words, were closer to Raam which is a two letter word.
And since number four is not as close to number two, there is not much reference of Shatrughn in the Raamaayan.
-----------------------------------------------------------

(1) Lav: One who bends in whatever direction the wind blows and does not get destroyed, one who can thrive under all circumstances.

(2) Kush: This is a type of grass. Just as grass thrives even on rocks he is one who survives under all circumstances.

(3) The everlasting quiver: The same amount of radiance emanating from the Sun principle is reflected back onto the basic Sun principle (Mool Soorya); hence the Sun is eternal. Similarly the number of arrows (energy) shot by Raam returned to Him. Hence His quiver was everlasting.

(4) Shabaree: Shabaree was conversant with Shabaree Vidyaa, a type of occult science. Under the pretext of eating berries, Raam learnt it from her and she imparted that knowledge to Him.

(5) Maareech: The supernatural power which enables one to transform oneself into a deer is called Maaruchi. The one who possesses such a power is called Maareech.

(6) The ten-headed Raavan: Raavan was ten-headed, that means a Braahman well versed in the knowledge of the ten scriptures (Dash Granth). Raavan was the son of Sage Pulastya. Pula is the vagina or the birth passage. This sage had made spiritual progress through the Path of Distressing Energy (Vaam Maarg). Once Raavan shook every channel (Naadee) in his body and created a sound like that of Rudra’s Veenaa (a stringed instrument). This appeased Lord Shiv.

(7) Bibheeshan: The embodied soul is situated above the navel according to one school of thought. During spiritual practice as it descends to the region of the navel (बिंब), one gets a terrifying (भीषण) experience. Hence it is called Bibheeshan [बिभीषण = bheeshan (भीषण) + bimba (बिंब) by reversing the order of words]. Bibheeshan’s spiritual level corresponding to his name was upto the level of the navel, that is the level of the Manipur Chakra.

(8) Lankaa: Lankaa means the head which lies above the neck. Raam handed over the kingdom of Lankaa to Bibheeshan means that He made Bibheeshan progress spiritually up to the level of the Sahasraar Chakra.

(9) Indrajeet: Indrajeet had control over all his organs (Jitendriya). (Jit means victory and Indriya means sense organs.)

(10) Bindu and Rekhaa: These are the consorts of Naraantak one of the sons of Raavan. The embodied soul should not remain bound by attractions of Bindu and Rekhaa, that is any kind of attraction. Otherwise they bring about the end (Ant, Antak) of man (Nar).
