Raavan's Age
How to Calculate Raavan's Age
(1) The difference between the duration of Sat Yug and Tretaa Yug, it was a lot
- millions of years. The whole Sat Yug is 1,728,000 years long and Tretaa
Yug is 1,296,000 years long. If somebody is born in the beginning of Sat Yug
and the same person dies in the end of Tretaa Yug, he can be 1,728,000 +
1,296,000 = 3,024,000 years old. With this calculation, Raavan's age should
be at least more than 2 million years, if not 3 million years.
Besides, Raavan's age, when he abducted Seetaa, must be his full age, as he
did not survive more than 1 year after abducting Seetaa.
(2) We cannot estimate Raavan's age by comparing it with Raam's age or Seetaa's age.
Why? Because they both were born in the end of Tretaa Yug and by the time Raam was born,
Raavan had done lots of atrocities in Tri-Lok because of his boons. Besides he
(3) Besides, We cannot estimate Raavan's age, even by comparing with Dasharath's age.
Dasharath himself said (Baal, 6/20)
to Vishwaamitra Jee, when he came to take Raam and Lakshman to protect his Yagya, that
he got his sons at the age of 60,000 years, so how can he separate them from him? After
getting his children he lived only for not even 30 years (16 years of Raam's age and
13 years after the marriage of Raam and then Raam went to forest and Dasharath died
in a few days time.)
Some Milestones of Raavan's Life
--Pulastya Rishi was the Maanas Putra of Brahmaa Jee - Sat Yug
--Pulastya had a son named Vishravaa - he was also born in Sat Yug, as he
married Trinbindu's daughter and that king also lived in Sat Yug.
--Vishravaa had the son Kuber - he was also born in Sat Yug
--Vishravaa had then 3 sons - Raavan, Kumbhkarn, and Vibheeshan - and they
all were also born in Sat Yug.
--they have done Tap for 10,000 years (

--All three brothers get married
--Raavan goes for world victory ....
--Raavan takes Lankaa from Kuber and becomes the king of Raakshas.
--He has about 15 events (of boons and curses) and then
----Lifts Kailaash Parvat where he cried for 1,000 years
----Vedvatee's curse
----Defeats Raajaa Marut
----He goes to Ayodhyaa twice - Maandhaataa and then Anranya, difference
between the times of these two was 150,000 years

--He started his atrocities and Tri-Lok was worried about them ----
So in V-Raamaayan, Baal, 4/14,
Devtaa go to Brahmaa Jee and request him to kill Raavan. Although because of
the nature of his boon it was difficult to kill him, but it was not impossible,
so Brahmaa Jee finds a way and go to Vishnu and prays Him to incarnate as a
human being on Prithvi.
So this all - means Raavan's birth, Raavan's Tap (10,000 years), his world
victory (which might have taken thousands of years) had already taken place.
It seems that whole Sat Yug and most Tretaa Yug had passed when Raam killed
him.
Because after that Raam ruled for 11,000 years, and after that ---
It is Assumed that --
And as Krishn left for His Param Dhaam on the last day of Dwaapar Yug; in
the same way Raam must have left for HIs Param Dhaam on the last day of
Tretaa Yug. As Krishn took all His people with Him, Raam also took all
Ayodhyaa people with Him.
Some Incidents of Raavan's Life
Here are some incidents of Raavan's life which if added can give a very
brief idea of his life span
(1) Raavan's Age during Tapas: (10,000 years)
The first incident of his life was to do Tapas for 10,000 years, in which at
the end of each thousand years he offered his one head to Agni at the end of
every 1,000 years. When at the end of 10,000 years he was about to offer his
last head to Agni, Brahmaa Jee appeared before him and granted boons to him.
(2) Fight With Kuber
Then he took Lankaa from Kuber
(3) World Victory Tour (150,000 years)
After this he went for world victory tour -
For the purpose of time measurement, his two incidents are very important. He went
to Ayodhyaa twice -
(1) He wins Marutt of Usheerbeej country
(2) He goes to Maandhaataa of Ayodhyaa, who ruled for 29,600 years
(3) He goes to Ayodhyaa another time, this time in Anranya's time (Maandhaataa's
son Purukuts, Purukuts' son was Trinshdash, and Trinshdash's son was Anranya),
and they all ruled for almost 30,000 years each, so if Raavan was alive during
5 kings lives, it means, he lived for 120,000-150,000 years.

Bhavishya Puraan says that after Anranya only a few thousand years remained
in passing half of the Sat Yug. This clearly means, that by the time Raavan
invaded Ayodhyaa second time, it was almost half of the Sat Yug had passed.
And half of the Sat Yug = 1,728,000 / 2 = 864,000
So if even if he was born after a few thousand years of the beginning of Sat
Yug, he should be somewhat 800,000 years old by that time.
(4) Kailaash Incident
Add 1,000 years to his life span when he was crushed by Shiv under Kailaash
Parvat.
(5) Last Incident-Seetaa's Abduction (1 year)
His last incident, Seetaa's abduction, though important from the viewpoint
of his destruction, is immaterial in realation of his age counting, because
all that finished within a year.
Other Proofs
First of all one should know that the difference between the ages of the
people of Sat Yug and Tretaa Yug was a lot - millions of years. The whole
Sat Yug is 1,728,000 years long and Tretaa Yug is 1,296,000 years long.
Did Raavan really rule for 27 Chatur-Yug? And if he did, if Raam was born
in 28th Chatur-Yug, then his gae must have been billions of years.
