20-Meghnaad

Meghnaad was the eldest son of Raavan and Mandodaree. He was very brave, so much so that he defeated Indra too, that is why he was known as Indrajit also. His wife's name was Sulochanaa, she was a Satee woman. When he was born he  made a loud cry like clouds, that is why he was named as Meghnaad.

The legend goes that when Meghnaad was killed by Lakshman, Lakshman managed to throw his one arm in the courtyard of his inner apartments. When Sulochanaa saw her husband's arm, she recognized it, and started crying, because she was very sure about her husband's bravery, that he could not be killed by any ordinary enemy. Then who killed her husband? After a while when she had gathered herself, she gave a stick to it and asked it to write the name of his killer and the arm wrote the name of his killer.

When Raavan had won many kings, he went to win Indra Lok. There he fought with Indra. He had three great Raakshas - Sumaalee,  - with him to fight, but Indra killed Sumaalee. Seeing Sumaalee killed, Raavan had run away from the battlefield. Seeing all Raakshas running away from the battlefield, Meghnaad came in the battlefield and gathered all the Raakshas and proceeded to fight with Indra. Raavan also followed him. Indra said to his fellow Devtaa - "We cannot kill Raavan because his boons from Brahmaa Jee, so let us arrest him." So they tried to arrest him but Meghnaad played tricks with his Maayaa and make Indra tired of him. Later he arrested him, and all returned to Lankaa with Indra as prisoner. Since then he was known as Indrajit. Later Brahmaa Jee himself came to free Indra and Meghnaad freed him in return of getting the boon of immortality.

He tied Hanumaan with Brahmaastra, when he went to Lankaa in search of Seetaa Jee and destroyed Ashok Vaatikaa. Hanumaan had already killed many Raakshas including Raavan's youngest son Akshaya Kumaar - he was only 16 years old at that time. When Raam-Raavan war broke, he made Raam and Lakshman unconscious. Once he cut Maayaa Seetaa in two to confuse Hanumaan and Vaanar.

But at last he was killed by Lakshman while he was doing Yagya to get immortality according to the boon bestowed by Brahmaa Jee to him.
