Ekaambar Naath Temple
Ekaambar Naath Temple is one of the oldest temples in the city of Kaancheepuram, in Tamilnaadu. The architecture of this Temple is amazing. The Gopuram of this Temple stands as a massive landmark, spanning a height of 57 meters - one of the tallest in South India. The vast Temple premises introduce you to many wonders, one after another.

The first is the "Aayiram Kaal Mandapam" or the hallway with a thousand pillars. The next is the array of 1008 Shiv Ling that decorate the inner walls of the temple. The most important, of course, is the "Sthal-virutcham", a 3500 year old mango tree whose branches give four different types of mangoes. This temple bears the work of practically every dynasty which ruled Kaancheepuram.

Ekaambareshwar Temple - Shiv's Earth Ling Temple
The most famous Shiv Temple at Kaancheepuram is the Ekaambareshwar temple where he is worshipped in the form of Earth Ling and its 11-storey structure Temple tower which is adorned with beautiful sculptures is one of the tallest temple tower in south India. The temple has silver and gold-plated Vaahan of considerable value. Originally built by the Pallav kings, this large Shiv Temple was later reconstructed by the Chol kings and Vijaynagar kings. Here, Lord Shiv is worshipped as Earth or Prithivi, which is one of the five elements. The dimensions of this temple are reflected in its 20 acre spread and its tall south Gopuram which soars to a height of 58.5 meters.

Kaanchee is 1 of the 7 very ancient and sacred cities as per Hindu tradition. It is divided into two - (1) Shiv Kaanchee and (2) Vishnu Kaanchee.
