2-Pootanaa Uddhaar

As morning broke, the whole village got the news of birth of a son in Nand Raaya Jee's house. They all started gathering to congratulate him and to have a glimpse of his son. Whoever saw Him, continued to see Him. He could not remove his eyes from His face. Nand Raaya was very happy with his son's birth. He celebrated the occasion with great pomp and show.

Kans was very much worried about the birth of a  girl and her statement, because certainly that was not Devakee's daughter. One astrologer told him that Devakee didn't have any daughter in her birth chart. She was to give birth to a son and that was also proved by the girl's statement, then where is his killer? So Kans ordered his Chief Minister to send his army all around his kingdom and kill all male children who were born last night. The Chief Minister said - "If this was done like this, then there is a possibility of the agitation in the kingdom." Kans said - "Do you know if this was not done like this then what will happen?" The Chief Minister said - "Mahaaraaj, That child is not going to grow immediately, so let us first find out about the children that how many and where are they born."

Then a secret agent of Kans informed him that Gokul was celebrating something whose noise was reaching in Mathuraa also. Hearing this Kans said - "Chief Minister, send our army to Gokul today and find out what was happening there." The Minister said again - "Mahaaraaj, It is not appropriate for you to send such a big army for a one-day old child. There may be some other ways also to do it. What about Pootanaa?"

Kans was happy to hear this, so he called Pootanaa (see Ratnmaalaa under Bali's Children). Pootanaa was his Dhaay (who breastfeeds the child in the absence of his mother's milk). He said to her - "Pootanaa, You saved my life before, you save my life now too. You have to kill one of my enemies." Pootanaa said surprisingly - "Sure, but how can I kill your enemy?" Kans said - "Because he is only a new-born baby. He is in Gokul. You go there and kill all those children who were born in Gokul within last seven days." Pootanaa said - "All right, I will smear my breasts with sweet poison and breastfeed each of them and kill all of them. You don't worry."

Rohinee came there to see Nand Raaya and Yashodaa. She told that the celebration's sound was echoing even in Mathuraa, so keep your enthusiasm a bit low. The then Nand Raaya heard about dying of newborn babies in Gokul. He immediately called a meeting, and in that meeting they came to know that only those children died who were born on the same night when his Kaanhaa (see Krishn's Names) was born, and all were given poison mixed in milk. Nobody could understand the reason of this killing and who mixed the poison in milk.

The Chief Minister informed Kans that Pootanaa was doing her job successfully and she should return anytime then after completing her work. Now Pootanaa came to Nand Raaya's house. Finding it lonely, she entered the house. She lifted Krishn and started breastfeeding Him. First she felt very satisfied in feeding Krishn, but then she felt as if Krishn was drawing her life through sucking her breast. She became restless, she tried  her best to free herself from Him but Krishn didn't leave her and continued sucking her breast till she died. Krishn gave her the honor of His mother and sent her to His Lok.

When Yashodaa didn't see her son in the house, she cried "Where is my Kaanhaa? Where is my Kaanhaa?" All people ran and found Kaanhaa safe and sound playing on a Raakshasee's breasts and the Raakshasee lying dead there. Nand Raay said - "Oh, This is Pootanaa - Kans' Dhaaya." The Chief Minister informed Kans that Pootanaa died in this process, but the good news was this that no child was alive now born on that night. Kans got very happy to hear this that his killer was dead now, and now he had no fear of death from his killer.
